Questions
What things cost, how far I travel, how long it takes. If yours isn't here, call or text and ask.
General
Where are you based, and how far do you travel?
I work out of Milan/Atwood, Tennessee, and cover a 100-mile radius for on-site work — Jackson, Trenton, Humboldt, Dyersburg, Union City, Martin, Paris, Huntingdon and the towns between them. There is a town checker on the home page that tells you the travel fee for your area. Remote support and shipped fabrication work are available anywhere in the US.
Is there a shop I can drop something off at?
No storefront. I come to you for on-site work, and for printing or fabrication you send me the details and I ship the finished part.
Who actually does the work?
I do. J7 Creations is one person — Thomas Ipock. You deal with me from the first message to the finished job, and nothing gets handed to a subcontractor.
What is your background?
Roles at Tesla, SWITCH, Lutron Electronics and Geek Squad, covering high-voltage electrical systems, enterprise data center networks, hardware and software support, and custom manufacturing.
What hours do you work?
Monday to Friday 9 AM to 6 PM, and Saturday 10 AM to 4 PM, Central. Outside those hours, text me and I'll get back to you first thing.
How fast do you reply?
Usually 2 to 4 hours during business hours, and always within one business day.
Cost and payment
Do you charge for a quote?
No. Remote quotes are free, and the first hour on site is free — I come out, look at the job, take measurements and give you a written estimate, with no obligation to book.
What does a diagnostic cost?
If it is straightforward and I don't have to take anything apart, the diagnostic is free. If it needs an in-depth strip-down, it depends on the job, and I'll tell you what it costs before I start. If I do that deeper diagnostic and you then decide not to go ahead — because the parts cost more than the machine is worth, say — I may charge a service fee for the time spent. You will know that up front, never afterwards.
Do you mark up parts and equipment?
No. Cameras, access points, racks, cable, filament — all quoted at actual retail cost, and I show you the receipts. You approve the full quote before any work begins.
How do I pay?
Cash, Venmo or Cash App. I don't take checks. Jobs over $300 take a 50% deposit up front, which covers materials.
What does it actually cost?
Remote support is $25 an hour with a 30-minute minimum. On-site work is $45 to $85 an hour depending on complexity. 3D printing starts around $10 for a small part. Every service page has a calculator that gives you a real figure before you ever speak to me.
Can you work to a budget?
Tell me the number. I would rather propose something that fits than quote you a system you did not want to buy.
Remote support
What can you actually fix remotely?
WiFi trouble and slow speeds, device configuration, software and setup help, network troubleshooting, printer and email problems. Most issues are resolved in 30 to 60 minutes. If it turns out to need hands on the hardware, I'll say so rather than run the clock.
How can a printed part be stronger than the original?
Because the original was built down to a price. A molded part has to come out of a tool, in the cheapest material that survives the factory, multiplied by a million units. Yours is made once, so none of that applies - I can add a fillet where it kept cracking, a rib where it flexed, or run it in nylon instead. If it failed for a reason, that reason can usually be designed out. Not always: sometimes the answer is that plastic was the wrong material to begin with, and I'll say so.
Do you repair hardware?
Some, yes, though it isn't a main service. I take on repairs where a repair is actually worth doing — and if the parts cost more than the machine is worth, I'll tell you that rather than charge you to find out. Anything past that, I'll point you somewhere better.
Do I need to install anything?
Usually a screenshare tool that I walk you through, and it comes off afterwards. Some things can be fixed over the phone with no software at all.
Do you only help people in Tennessee?
Remote support is nationwide and carries no travel fee. Only on-site work is limited by distance.
On-site work
What if something you installed fails?
If it fails within 30 days of an install, I come back and fix it at no charge. On printed parts: if it doesn't fit or doesn't work, I make it right.
Will I be able to understand what you built?
That's the point. Every system I build is documented, explainable and under your control — no cloud lock-in, no subscriptions, no dependencies you can't see. If I vanished tomorrow you would still own something maintainable.
Can you work on a network someone else installed?
Yes. A good part of the job is inheriting somebody else's wiring and making it behave.
How soon can you come out?
Standard scheduling depends on the week. Rush turnaround is available at +50% for 48 hours and +100% for 24 hours, when I have the capacity.
3D printing and fabrication
What can you make?
Functional prototypes, custom mounts, enclosures, replacement parts for things nobody manufactures any more, signage and laser engraving. If it broke and there is nowhere left to buy one, that's the work I like most.
I don't have a CAD file. Can you still help?
Yes. Send a photo, a sketch, or the broken part itself along with a description. Design time is $75 an hour, and I'll tell you roughly how long it should take before starting.
What materials do you print in?
PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU, PC, nylon, and carbon or glass fiber blends. The fabrication page lists what each one is good for, including heat resistance and outdoor durability.
How long does a print take?
Standard turnaround is 5 to 10 business days. 48-hour and 24-hour rush are available when I have capacity.
Can you ship it to me?
Yes, anywhere in the US. Shipping is extra, and the estimator on the 3D printing page works it out from the size and weight of the part and where it is going. Within 60 miles of Milan I can hand-deliver it for a fee instead. There is no pickup.
Still not sure?
Ask me directly — there is no charge for a question, and no obligation after the answer.
