Privacy Policy
What this site collects, why, and who else sees it.
The short version. This is a one-person business. I collect what I need to quote your job and nothing else. I don't sell your information, and there is no mailing list.
What you send me
If you fill in the contact form, I receive whatever you type into it — typically your name, email address, phone number, town, the service you want and a description of the job. Any estimate you generate with one of the calculators is included if you choose to send it. Files you attach come through with it.
The form is delivered by Formspree, which passes the message to my email, and that is where any files you attached stay. A copy of the text also goes into my own job records, so an enquiry becomes a job I can pick back up later instead of an email I have to find again. Ask me to delete yours and I will.
Where the job records are
They run on Cloudflare D1, a database on the same hosting as this site, behind a login that only I can pass. Nobody else has an account, and the pages that read them are not reachable from the public internet without that login.
What ends up in there is the text of your enquiry, the answers you gave the form, any estimate the site worked out for you, your budget and timescale if you told me them, the page you sent it from, the country your browser reported, the line your browser sends to say what it is (its make and version, and your device's system), and the names of any files you attached (the files themselves stay in my email). If you used the assistant first, the conversation goes in too — see The assistant below.
Your IP address is scrambled with a secret key before it is written, so the record can tell repeat submissions apart without the address itself being stored. Someone holding that key could work an address back out, so the key is kept as a secret in my hosting account, not with the records.
How long I keep it
It depends on what happens to your enquiry, and the honest answer is different in three cases.
If I decide it is not a job — spam, or a sales pitch, or something I am not the right person for — what you wrote is deleted from my records at that moment, not a month later. All that stays is a one-line note to myself saying what it was. That covers my records: the email the form sent me stays in my email until I delete it, and Formspree, which delivers the form, keeps its own copy under its own policy.
If it becomes actual work, what you wrote moves onto the job record and the enquiry's own copy is deleted. The job record is then kept as a business record for as long as I am in business, the same as any quote or receipt. If you talked to the assistant first, that conversation is saved with it as a file, so I can look back at what you asked for. That file is kept with your customer record and is not deleted on a timer.
If it is neither — still sitting in my inbox, or something that never turned into work — the text is kept for about a month, then cleared automatically the next time I open my system after that. The clear-out runs by itself, so it does not depend on me remembering.
You can ask me to delete yours sooner at any point, and I will.
Reading and sorting enquiries
When an enquiry arrives, I have Claude, an AI assistant made by Anthropic, read it once. It writes me a short summary, says whether it looks like a new job, an existing customer, a support question or spam, and drafts a reply I might send.
That draft is a suggestion on my screen, and nothing more. No reply is ever sent to you automatically. I read it, change it, and send it myself, or write something else entirely. There is no part of my system that can message you without me doing it.
What is sent to Anthropic for that is the text of your enquiry and the conversation if there was one. It is not used to train anything. Files you attach are never sent — those come to me by email and stay there.
When an enquiry lands, my phone gets a notification. It carries nothing about you — not your name, not a word of what you wrote — only that something arrived. Everything else is behind my login. That is deliberate: it means no part of your enquiry passes through Apple's or Google's notification services.
The calculators
The estimators run entirely in your browser. Measurements, part descriptions and prices are worked out on your own device, and a 3D file you upload is never sent anywhere — it is read locally to measure the model. Nothing from a calculator reaches me unless you press the button that sends it to the contact form.
Your settings
The gear at the top of every page keeps your choices (light or dark, the text size, and less motion) in your own browser, on your device. They are never sent to me or anyone else. Forget everything this site remembers on this device, at the bottom of that menu, clears them, along with the chat and any estimate still in your tab, and Google Analytics' cookies on this site.
Ben, the assistant
Ben, the Ask Ben box in the corner, is an AI assistant, not me. What you type into it is sent to Anthropic, whose Claude model writes the replies. Anthropic handles it under its commercial terms, which don't allow it to train its models on what you send.
Whether I ever see the conversation is up to you, and it comes down to one button. While you are chatting, it stays in your browser tab. Nothing is sent to me, and if you close the tab without sending the form, it is gone and I never had it.
If you press Send this to Thomas, a short form opens inside the chat with the assistant's summary and boxes for your name, email and phone. Nothing is sent until you press Send in that form, and the details you type there come straight to me — they are never sent to the assistant. When you send it, the conversation comes with it: the summary is in that form, where you can read and change it first, and the rest of the conversation goes as it was typed. The same applies if you choose the full contact form instead.
How long it then stays follows the same three cases as any other enquiry, in How long I keep it above. The one worth repeating here: if your enquiry becomes a job, the conversation is saved with your customer record as a file and kept, because it is the record of what you asked for. If it does not become a job, it goes — immediately if I decide it is not for me, within a month otherwise.
To stop one connection running up the bill, your IP address is counted for up to two hours. Please don't type passwords or card numbers into it.
Analytics
The site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people actually read. It records things like the pages you view, roughly where in the world you are, and whether you clicked the phone number or submitted the form. It sets cookies to do that. I use it to work out which services people are looking for — not to identify you.
If you would rather not be counted, any browser-level tracker blocking or the Google Analytics opt-out add-on will stop it, and the site works exactly the same either way.
Cloudflare, which hosts the site, also counts page views with its Web Analytics. It sets no cookies and does not identify you.
Advertising
I may run Google Ads. If you arrive from an ad, Google records that the visit and any message you send came from it, so I can tell which ads are worth paying for. That measurement is aggregate.
Hosting
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes the requests your browser makes, including your IP address, in order to serve the pages and block abuse.
The map on the home page is Google Maps. When it shows, your browser loads it from Google, which receives your IP address and your browser's details, as with any site it serves.
What I don't do
- I don't sell or rent your information to anybody.
- There is no newsletter and no marketing email list.
- I don't take card details on this site. Payment is arranged directly, and the site never handles it.
- There are no accounts for customers, so there is nothing for you to log in to and no password of yours to lose. The job records are gated by my own login, not by one you create.
- I don't read a conversation you never sent me.
- I don't use your enquiry to train anybody's AI model.
- Nothing I have ever replies to you on its own. Every message you get from me, I wrote or approved and sent myself.
- My notifications carry nothing about you, so no part of your enquiry passes through a notification service.
Children
This is a business site aimed at customers, not children, and I do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Asking me to delete something
Email or call and say so. I'll delete it from both places, the email and the job records, and confirm that I have. You don't need to give a reason. If you want to know what I hold about you first, ask and I'll tell you.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version appears on this page. There is no archive of old versions — what is here is what applies.
